The reason people struggle with money.
Apr 12, 2023Have you ever felt repulsed by someone wanting a lot of money?
Have you ever told yourself you don't want money, only enough to survive?
Have you ever thought you don't want to be greedy when it comes to money?
We all have a belief system when it comes to money. And it forms the basis of everything we do in life.
But what if you have been sold a lie when it comes to money? What if it is not the root of all evil?
Some of my clients had a huge aversion to money when they first started seeing me. They didn't want to have too much so they wouldn't be changed by it. Money doesn't change you. It amplifies who you truly are. It frees you to be your true self because it removes the limitations you feel.
One reason we do not want money is the belief that rich people are greedy. And while some might be, it's not true for all people who have it. There are many people with money doing great things. And we need more people doing great things in the world. Because we vote with every dollar we spend.
We vote for the types of food we want our famers tot produce. We vote for the types of automobiles we want car manufacturers to build. We vote for the education we want our children to receive. We vote for the future of this world.
Wouldn't you want more voting power? Because that's one important thing money offers.
A few years ago I donated $25k to a water project. I followed a prompting I felt to give, but it wasn't easy to do it. It was well beyond what I thought I had to give at time and I feared I would go into debt if I followed that impulse. But I learned something valuable from that experience.
o You have more than you think. My fear was unfounded. The act of giving helped me be more resourceful.
o Money won't change you. In fact, nothing in my life changed. But it did change the life of the community of people who now enjoys clean drinking water. And that was a life-changing experience for me.
o The more you give, the happier you become. Contrary to popular belief, money does make people happy, and if you don't think so, then you haven't given enough of it away yet.
What is your aversion to having more money? Do you know? What do you tell yourself it would mean if you had more money?
The only way to unravel the lie is to know what you tell yourself. Then question if it's really true.
We have all heard "it is better to give than to receive." And while it is certainly great to give, doesn't that put the receiver on the bad end of the spectrum? Giving necessitates a receiver. And if receiving is bad, then doesn't that make giving bad because you are putting someone in an awkward position?
