Slow and steady wins the race.
Oct 17, 2022Have you ever heard the saying "Slow and Steady Wins the Race"?
So many people misapply this saying.
Slow and steady does win the race if the path is clearly laid out, yes.
Last week I planted ten huge clumps of birds of paradise. Huge clumps - much larger than I imagined when I ordered them. This meant the holes also had to be larger than I envisioned when I ordered them.
The clumps were so massive; I had to wobble them back and forth to get them moving and roll them into the holes.
Because I wasn't strong enough to do this job, it required greater effort and some ingenious thinking.
By the third hole, I knew I had to slow down if I wanted to finish this project.
Slow and steady, in this case, made sense.
I knew what needed to be done, and I needed to sustain my energy to get it done.
But slow and steady doesn't apply to all projects.
Slow and steady for many projects will keep you off track, impede momentum, and create confusion - the opposite of clarity.
If you want to move slowly and steadily, make sure that you first take advantage of the energy and momentum of your idea to set clear milestones and goals.
In other words, make sure you have clearly identified what needs to be done, the path to take, and the time you have to get it done.
Once you are clear on what consistent daily action to take, you can move slowly and steadily, keeping the vision at the forefront.
You can use your ability to course-correct to ensure you are still on the right path as you move forward and gather more information.
Because slow and steady on the wrong path might get you far off course, which is the opposite of wining the race.
Much love,
