I really hate to tell you this, but …

No one is coming to save you.

I remember the day one of my coaches said these exact words to me.

"No one is coming to save you."

I felt a part of me break.

I had this sinking feeling in my gut.

I felt my mind whirl into a state of utter confusion as I stared into her eyes in an attempt to anchor myself.

They say confusion is a good thing.

It's a way to catch the mind off guard.

And all the excuses we tell ourselves and self-imposed limitations disappear for a moment.

The confusion makes us take a second look at something we thought was permanent.

And at that moment, we see the truth.

I repeated the words to myself, still feeling dazed, "no one is coming to save me."

The confusion for me was, "why was she telling me this?"

I never thought someone was coming to save me.

I worked hard, really hard, all of my life.

I pushed myself to the limit.

And as I questioned her statement, I realized I never thought anyone was coming to save me, BUT I certainly acted that way.

I searched endlessly for answers.

I signed up for one program after another, hoping to find the magic bullet – aka my saviour.

I didn't understand why she said those words when she spoke them.

And the moment of confusion allowed me a glimpse of the truth I wasn't seeing.

We all have blind spots.

It's the way we learn to navigate life.

It's how we kept ourselves safe or comfortable – even when we didn't feel safe or comfortable.
